The Flight of the Busty Belle

Ep.5 Foraging and Forts
the mysterious island.

Guatemala fort caribbean coast

Low on supplies but with morale restored the crew had set course towards a small island that the navigator, Mr. Sorenson knew about, once there the ship would resupply with fresh water, gathered fruits and hopefully some meat from hunted game.

On the trip the crew went about their normal duties, forming a routine by which they could lose them selves in to relieve the monotony of life aboard a ship. Quentin studied under Mr Sorenson, learning about chart navigation as well as how to use the sextant, astrolab and compass properly. Emilie had taken to Mouse’s lessons with a renewed energy and soon became impressed with her ability to grasp the language and concepts they were going over. Leo continued organizing Leonardo’s medical ward, sealing up leaks and cracks. Meanwhile through all of it Mister Irish continued his job, following up with everyone and making sure all hands were doing their duties, while coordinating with Mr Carrow on crew foraging assignments on the island.

Island The Busty Belle laid anchor in a small harbor and the crew all boarded the longboats to row out to the island. Upon landing they split up into their assigned teams to forage for fruit, fresh water, timber and game. Mister Irish, Quentin, Leo and Emilie headed off towards the interior, Quentin in the lead. Unfortunately Quentin navigation lessons under Mr. Sorenson did not help too much on land and soon the party became lost.

While wandering around on the base of the volcano the crew began to notice some strange things, brush moving suddenly, a figure lurking around. They tried to catch whatever or whoever it was that was following them but all their efforts met with failure.

Eventually Quentin figured out where they were and lead them back into the island interior. There they came across an old abandoned fort that suffered from age and neglect. Quentin had been noticing more signs that they were being followed and decided to avoid the main entrance by climbing up the wall, which being overgrown with vines was a simple matter. Emilie joined him. Leo and Mister Irish saw a figure dart around the inside of the fort and, without hesitation chased after him. Unfortunately this was a bad idea as the archway into the fort was booby trapped. Mister Irish barely got out of the way as projectile darts shot out from the walls.

Up along the wall Quentin and Emilie saw their mysterious stalker ducking inside one of the building, a greyish tail following through the door. They moved along the wall, noticing as they did that there were still some old rusted cannons and cannonballs that might be salvageable. As Quentin went to inspect one of them the entire platform collapsed, bringing the cannon and cannonball down with it. Fortunately Quentin rolled out of the way as they did, suffering only superficial injuries. Emilie wasn’t caught in the collapse and managed to skirt her way along the rotted beams to the other side.

Down below Leo and Mister Irish rushed towards the house, joined quickly by Quentin. Emilie meanwhile ran along the upper wall. Inside the house, Mister Irish cornered the mysterious thing and was surprised to find that it was a man wearing a shark, or more precisely the skin of a shark on his back. They began to talk to him but he panicked and jumped through the window.

They slowly walked outside, talking calmly to him until they gained his trust. He revealed his name to be Sharktooth and that he had been on the island for a long time, they tried to get a clear picture of how long but his ramblings were indecipherable. They continued talking with him and he further revealed that he had come to the island on a ship and if they wanted he could show them, the group agreed and followed him out of the fort.

About 15 minutes from the fort they came to a hillside and Sharktooth uncovered a small cave leading into the island, they followed him inside and it soon opened up into a large cavern with an opening out to the sea. Smashed up against the rocks of the cavern sat an old ship, the hull broken and the deck cracked in half. Sharktooth seemed very nervous in the cavern and kept mumbling about getting out into the open. When the crew went aboard to check the ships integrity they discovered there were still kegs of gunpowder below deck that could be salvaged. In the Captain’s cabin the found the log and a locked chest. Quentin picked open the lock and inside they found hundreds of pieces of eight.

Rejoicing the crew returned to the beach to find that the other crews had been successful as well and a feast with a roasting boar was underway. They reported their find to Mr. Carrow and it wasn’t long before the ship’s cargo was recovered.

Their larders and coffers full the ship continued on to Tortuga to seek repairs and further resupply, Sharktooth with them.

the group finds a place among the crew
Tuesday July 5th, 1689
9:00am

Pirate tavern by hofarts
After speaking with the Captain the night before and learning the details of the Brethren Horde the crew bunks in for the night. Irish, Quentin and Leo all pass right out, sleeping for six straight hours. Emilie, unfortunately doesn’t sleep well at all and wakes up with her head all foggy and feeling horrible, Leo sees this and gives her a an herbal bean that gives her a boost of energy and helps clear her head.

Mr Carrow (who no one saw go to bed but is seemingly up before anyone else) rouses everyone else out of their hammocks and tells them all to report up on the deck for an announcement by the captain. The crew files upstairs onto the deck and Captain Anna stands on the upper deck near the wheel to address her crew.

‘Everyone, we’ve had a hard night and a hard couple of days and it is thanks to these brave people that we have a crew at all. Now we are not without distress, we are low on supplies and need to resupply. We are setting course for Tortuga and everyone will receive their share and a couple of days to carouse, afterwards we will be returning to our mission. Any who decide they want to forfeit their shares may choose to stay in port but the rest of you know what I expect of you. So let’s get to work and get our ship into port for some much needed relaxation.’

Captain Anna takes aside the crew, casually ordering Mr Carrow and Mister Irish to see to the crew and their duties. She turns to Leo and grasps his hand, thanking him for his services the previous night, treating the crew. She asks him if he wouldn’t mind assisting the (elderly) ship’s surgeon in his duties, Leo agrees and heads off to find the surgeon’s station. Annabelle then asks Quentin if he would mind lending some of his skills to the navigator Mr Sorenson, Quentin agrees and proceeds to the helm to speak with the ship’s pilot. She then turns to Emilie, and looks her up and down before asking her ‘Was your father Charles Lavoie?’

Bewildered, Emilie responded ‘Yes’

Annabelle smiled, understanding the confusion, and revealed that her father had been Archibald Stuart, a friend and business partner or her father. Annabelle revealed that she had known of Emilie when they were younger and knew of the upbringing and training she had received, training that was similar to her own. Trusting in Emilie, she asked if she would take over care of young Mouse, as Captain her duties prevent her from seeing to the girls proper education and it would be a tremendous help if she could impart the lessons in education and etiquette that Emilie received as a young girl. The only other choice would be to put her to work with the men below, she quickly agreed and Annabelle told her to move her belongings into the captain’s cabin.

9:30am

Mr. Carrow and Mister Irish proceed along the deck and Mr. Carrow begins instructing Irish on everything they need to take care of before they make port, a complete inventory of the ships stores, food, medical supplies, repairs, everything. Irish heads to the bow of the ship and knocks on the door to the surgeons station, Leo answers and they have a brief conversation about what is needed.

Emilie moves her things into the captains cabin and sits down with Mouse, asking her about her background, what she learned and where she is in her education. Mouse, timidly, reveals to her that she grew up in Port au Prince with her mother (whose last name is Delacouer)and that she knows some french but due to lack of practice and use hasn’t kept it up. Emilie immediately switches over to french and although it is slow going at first the lessons go on at a decent pace. During the lessons Emilie discovers that Mouse also has a very good knowledge of local pirate legends.

Meanwhile, up at the helm Quentin and Mr. Sorenson are becoming acquainted as Sorenson starts instructing Quentin how the ship operates and basic navigation.

On the main deck Irish continues his inventory, calling down Lacroix from the rigging and asking if they need anything. Lacroix scoffed at Irish’s ignorance and tells him that yes, of course, they would need all new spare rigging as they used up all their spares fixing the rigging the other night. He scampers back into the rigging and irish continues down below deck, towards the galley. In the galley he talks to Cookie who tells him that the food is next to gone, pulling up a mostly rotten cabbage from one of the barrels as proof. Irish asks him if he can prepare a list for him, Cookie says he’s preparing lunch but to come back after and he’ll go through everything with him. Moving down below deck he moves past where they fought the saboteurs the previous night and knocks on the door to the storage room. Opening the door, Mr Carrow lets Mister Irish in and they discuss the inventory, Irish picks up that something is wrong though and questions him on it. Carrow admits that the ship is in a bad way, plunder hasn’t been good and after calculating shares it appears that the crew will only have about 15 pieces of eight each for their shore leave, to make matters worse that will only leave around 30 pieces of eight for repairs and resupply, far less then the estimated 150 that is actually needed. Irish offers to give up his own share but Carrow waves this off saying that while it is appreciated a lot more would be needed.

12:00pm

Cookie rings the lunch bell and the crew gathers to eat. The meal is somber and quick. Irish takes the opportunity to return a small flask of holy water he ‘borrowed’ from the Old Church in Port Royal to pastor Francis who has set himself up in a corer near the bow. The Pastor tells him that he apprecaites it but if Irish wants he’ll share a secret with him, it’s just water. Irish is taken aback, saying

‘Holy water hasn’t been touched by the hand of god?!’

Pastor Francis quickly recovers his astonishment at the statement and says that the power to bless the water is given to him FROM god and Irish accepts this.

After lunch, Leo finishes cleaning the deplorable conditions in the surgeon’s cabin (stagnant water in barrels, dirty and disorganized bandages)and begins walking around the deck, he immediately begins to notice a trend amongst the crew, namely the sallow appearances, stooped postures and general depression. He heads to the captain’s cabin and knocking first, lets himself in. Leo proceeds to inform the captain that the crew is exhibiting signs of possible scurvy and it would be prudent to get ashore where they can find some provisions soon. Captain Anna nods at this and tells him that she will do what she can and heads out of the cabin.

The Captain speaks to Sorenson who consults his charts and points to a small island, almost indiscernable on his chart that is only a day and half away where they could possibly resupply with fresh fruit and water. Sorenson instructs Mr. Ward to change the ship’s course and he does.

Meanwhile Emilie finishes with Mouse’s lessons and lets her go play around the ship. Mouse runs around and, seeing Irish, follows him around. Emilie goes out onto the deck and watches the ocean.

Mister Irish finishes his lunch and heads back to the galley with Cookie, Mouse in tow, and takes inventory with him while everyone returns to work. After getting the final numbers Irish returns to the storage deck below to give them to Mr. Carrow (who never came up for lunch) and they sit down and discuss the inventory while Mouse runs around amidst the crates.

MIND THE CORNERS!’ Irish yells before settling into conversation with Mr. Carrow.

Part way through the conversation Irish asks him if he has anything to drink, Carrow reaches back and grabs an old book, saying that in times of need he was always able to turn to the good book for some salvation. Irish rolls his eyes until Carrow opens the book revealing a flask hidden inside. They settle down for a drink.

1:30pm

Up above Leo walks around the deck and starts talking to the crew, he talks to the the ship’s musicians Pip and Weasel, asking them why they aren’t doing what they do naturally. Weasel (a small portly fellow) holds up his lute and it’s missing strings, he says he can’t play without strings. Leo turns to Pip who explains that he sings but he needs Weasel’s lute to keep time, Leo asks them if they know any shanties to which they reply no they don’t. Surprised by this Leo spies Emilie nearby and asks her if she knows any, she nods.

Emilie begins singing a slow rendition of Hoist the Colors

Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
The King and his men stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her bones
The seas be ours and by the powers
Where we will…we’ll roam
Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never say we die
Some men have died and some are alive
And others sail on the sea
With the keys to the cage
And the devil to pay
We lay to Fiddler’s Green!
Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
The bell has been raised from its watery grave
Do you hear its sepulchral tone?
A Call to all, pay heed to the squall
And turn your sail towards home!
Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die

Leo joins her in a round and soon even Pip and Weasel join in as well. The song begins catching on with other crew members and soon the rope monkeys, the Captain, Mr. Sorenson and others join in as well. The crew all finish the round, and soon break into Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum, the songs carrying throughout the ship until every sailor is singing. When the song ends Mouse comes up on deck and begins singing an old french song, everyone watches her and listens, emotions visible on their faces. When she finishes, as if by some divine plan, the clouds break and the sun comes out, shining brightly on everyone.

Their spirits lifted, the crew maintains course for the island.

Ep3. All aboard the Busty Belle!
the group joins the pirate crew and escapes into the night.

Pirate ship

Tuesday June 5th, 1:15 am

The crew settled aboard the Busty Belle, wet and underfed sailors all around them. Orders were soon being barked by Captain Anna, all able bodied sailors were to prepare the ship for immediate departure while all sick sailors needed to report below decks and see the ship’s surgeon. Unfortunately the fates were not on their side as it was soon discovered that the rigging and the steering had been sabotaged, the ship was essentially adrift.

The weather suddenly took a turn for the worse, the clouds opened up and rain began pelting the ship. Mr. Carrow began organizing the crew, going below decks and retrieving all the spare rope they had. Some of the crew, including Francois Lacroix (all nicknamed the rope monkeys)ran up into the rigging and began cutting away the damaged lines.

Down on the deck Emilie, amidst all the chaos and confusion, looking off into the distance, noticed a light to the southwest. Up in the rigging Francois hopped up into the crow’s nest, noticing some small lights off in the distance as well. Looking into the mounted spyglass and noticed that the light in the distance was not just one light but 5 separate lights, quickly estimating they were approximately 15 minutes out. Francois quickly shouted down this information to the deck below.

Below deck Leo followed the ship’s surgeon, a man named (coincidentally) Leonardo and began administering as much help as he could to the sailors that were injured. Leo helped everyone he could but when he attempted to help three crewmen they told him to mind his business and then left, Leo surreptitiously followed them and saw that they headed downstairs to the storage deck.

Up top, Captain Anna, Mr Carrow and the ship’s Master Carpenter, known only as Ol’ Gus, were busy looking over the helm, the rudder chain having been removed. Emilie made her way over and looked as well, finding a small piece of blue fabric wedged into the gears. Below deck Leo shared his suspicions with the Mister Irish and Quentin and the three of them decided to keep an eye on the three crew members.

Making their way to the supply deck below they witnessed the three crewmen having a slightly heated discussion around a storage chest, they began trying to move in to overhear the details of their conversation but unfortunately because of the brewing storm the ship suddenly lurched to the side and they knocked over some crates, causing the three men to look over in their direction. The three begin moving towards Leo and the others and a fight seemed inevitable.

In the crows nest Francois helps finish with the rigging before returning to the deck below, the rain making his trip down more dangerous than usual. As he reaches the deck he see’s Emilie head below deck and not knowing who she is decides to follow her. Emilie goes below deck to check with Leo and, not finding him, decides to check the supply deck.

Below, the 3 errant crewmen advance on Quentin, Leo and Mister Irish. Irish attempts to intimidate them by bashing his head into the mast, this causes them to take a step back but they quickly decide to press their attack. Quentin pulls out a dagger, deftly throwing it at one of them but the lurching of the boat makes him miss the mark. The dagger sticks into a box and one of the thugs pulls it out and hands it to his friend in front. The thug takes a stab at Irish, missing him but tearing his shirt. Irish takes a swing at two of the thugs and despite hitting them causes no damage, he takes a few hits as well but just smiles back at them. Leo remains in the back with his bow nocked, when one of the thugs draws a pistol Leo attempts to shoot it from his hand but, again, the lurching motion of the ship makes things difficult. Quentin moves in with a punch but loses his footing, Irish though finds his and dispatches one with a wicked hook that throws him back into some crates causing them to collapse atop him, he then steps in towards the one Quentin is fighting and delivers a wicked head butt that collapses the man’s face into itself. The remaining thug with the pistol attempts to take a shot at Quentin but fortunately the ship’s movement throws him off and he throws the pistol to the ground and attempts to draw his cutlass, Leo quickly responds by firing an arrow which embeds itself directly between the man’s eyes and he falls over dead.

Emilie comes downstairs as the fight wraps up and demands to know what is happening, Irish tells her they were attacked as Leo begins searching them for clues to who they are. Emilie notices the chest they left open and finds the missing rudder chain inside, Quentin quickly grabs it and turns to return to the top deck. Francois watches all this from the stairs and not knowing these new people pulls out his pistol, telling them not to move, Quentin ignores this threat and showing him the chain proceeds up the stairs, Francois doesn’t stop him.

The group brings the chain to Ol’ Gus and he quickly installs it while Captain Anna orders the crew to ready for immediate cast off. The lights, meanwhile, draw ever closer, close enough that the lead ship starts taking shots at the Busty Belle, most missing widely but one hitting the port side rail, shattering it into deadly splinters that kills one of the crewmen. Quentin and Emilie hear the shots and hit the deck immediately, the rest of the group are barely missed by the shrapnel.

The Belle begins moving forward and the five ships closing in are now visible despite the darkness of the night. The captain orders the pilot to use Port Royal, moving around it for cover. The group begins moving around the ship, dousing all lamps and helping the crew with the sail and even the storm itself seems to lend a hand as the lead ship and loses control and almost slams into one of the other ships. Soon the Belle makes it’s way around Port Royal and escapes into the night.

The Busty Belle’s Captain’s Quarters, 3:20am

Captain Anna calls the group into her cabin, thanking them for their efforts. Irish goes and checks on Mouse, making sure she’s asleep and safe. Captain Anna looks at Irish and says that she believes they can be trusted and that it may be time to share with them the secret of the Belle.
She lays out a small sheath of paper with markings on it and tells them the story of One Eyed William and the Brethren Hoard, how the treasure was hidden years ago and the map divided amongst Willy and his officers but that del nero had captured on of them and obtained a portion of the map. Captain Anna wants to recover the rest of the pieces (one of them being in the possession of del Nero himself) and find the treasure herself to use it against him. One of the officers was rumored to have been seen on the island of Martinique but before they can go and investigate the Belle must first head to Tortuga to resupply.

Ep2. Bars do not a prison make
Breakout at Bridewell!

Prison

Port Royal 4:00pm

The group has finished planting the ropes they will need for their breakout plan, everyone has gathered together back at the church and Pastor Francis brought out a meagre meal of bread, cheese, water and wine for them. They sit and talk while they eat and the Pastor informs them that he has a small service that evening, because in times like this he will do what he can to provide for the poor and oppressed of Port Royal. The group kept mainly to themselves, Mister Irish went to his cell and got drunk, Leo stayed in his cell reading, Emilie spoke on and off with Pastor Francis and Quentin amuses himself reading a bible, chuckling to himself.

The Old Church 7:00pm

At 7pm Pastor Francis began receiving the small amount of people that showed up seeking his council. Emilie and Quentin attended the sermon in the back row, watching the assembled congregation. Francis gives everyone equal attention, donning out the body and blood of Christ and giving comfort where he can before the service comes to an end. As it does a member of the congregation asks to speak to Francis privately and they retreat to his office just as Leo and Irish come upstairs from their isolation. Suspicious of the stranger, both Emilie and Quentin listen at the Pastor’s door and overhear only a few words of the conversation. ‘Antonio…. tonight…. leave’. This affects Emilie and when the man emerges from the Pastor’s office she grabs him, slamming him up against the wall and shoving the tip of her dagger into his neck.

WHERE IS HE?!” Emilie demands of the man.

Pastor Francis and Leo both try to stop her, Irish sitting back in a pew drinks his wine and says that he might want to oblige the lady as she looks mighty serious. Francis and Leo attempt to talk her down as the man, very scared at the sudden attack, tells her that Antonio de Silva is coming to Port Royal that night to check on the prisoners and interrogate them himself. Emilie lets him go when he swears that’s all he knows and frustrated and angry she turns and storms out to the graveyard out back. Leo follows her out.

In the graveyard Leo listens to Emilie as she tells him about the problems her quest for vengeance against de Silva, assuring her that they’ll deal with it but that she needs to get her mind back on the plan. Returning inside she reveals this information to the rest of the group, Irish chiming in his support because he loves a good tussle. Francis brings out spare robes for them all to wear and they get dressed, when 11:30 comes they prepare to leave.

Bridewell Prison 12:00 am
Bridewell

At midnight the group nade their way to the prison in disguise, all of them dressed as clergy including Emilie who hid her spear as an incense censer thanks to Leo. As they approached the two guards outside stopped them, greeting the Pastor and inquiring why there were more with him. Francis replied simply that with the amount of people going to the gallows it was too much for him to do alone, all of them deserve absolution and he would not fail in his duties. The guard, believing him, lets them down the stairs.

Once downstairs the Pastor is approached by the Guard Captain and asked what all the extra people are doing there, the Pastor offers up the same explanation he gave upstairs but the astute Captain notices something is amiss and questions Francis further. The group spreads apart, looking as though they are going to go and council the prisoners, when suddenly one of the prisoners recognizes Mister Irish and calls him by name, alerted by this the guards realize that they are being deceived and a fight breaks out.

The fight soon became chaotic as the guards rushed the group. Mister Irish immediately jumped into the fray, taking down 3 guards while Leo and Emilie took down a couple of others. Quentin immediately went to work trying to unlock the cells and even Pastor Francis became involved when a guard attempted to skewer Emilie only to be interrupted by Francis bashing him over the head with his bible, knocking him unconscious. Soon the cells sprang open and the prisoners overpowered the remaining guards, beating them to death. Mister Irish and Mr. Carrow quickly conferred and Mister Irish informed him of the plan to have the boat meet them just off the coast. Pastor Francis, appalled at the violence that had occurred decided to leave with the group, knowing that he was no longer safe in Port Royal.

The prisoners soon surged up the stairs and into the streets, Mr. Carrow ordered his men over the side of the cliff while the other prisoners escaped out into the streets. The pirates soon took down the guards outside and began climbing down the ropes to the ocean below. Quentin and Irish stayed up above, making sure everyone got down. As they started down the ropes they could hear whistles in the distance, they dove into the ocean, helping Leo (who was floundering) to the longboat and rowed to the waiting ship.

The Busty Belle, 12:33 am

Once on board Irish reported to the Captain who was conferring with a very wet Mr. Carrow. The Captain came forward and thanked the group for their part in freeing the crew and offerred them to join up, if they didn’t want to she would drop them on any nearby island they wanted. Emile asked if they would have a chance to go after de Silva and this caught the Captain’s attention, with a smirk and a wicked look she told her “Oh, I think you can count on that” They all joined up, signing the ship’s accords and became full fledged mates aboard the Busty Belle, Captained by Annabelle Stuart.

Ep1. Welcome to Port Royal
The adventure begins!

9pirates of the caribbean by yanick dusseault

Port Royal: Monday, July 4th, 1689

Background:

For the last 6 months the town of Port Royal has been experiencing an increase in the number of arrests and hangings of pirates, normally this wouldn’t be a cause for alarm but the amount of British soldiers have been increasing considerably. There has also been rumors that normal sailors have been detained and held without reason and that some have even been tortured and mysteriously killed by a group known as the Spanish Inquisition, hard to believe since the Spanish and the British are mortal enemies. Some even say that the Spanish have bought Governor Lynch outright and now control Port Royal.

Port Royal, 12:00pm

Old church
Quentin Ward, wanted thief, finds himself in the Old Church in Port Royal, he’s been on the run
for weeks and has found himself in the company of Pastor Francis, a portly, older gentlemen who really enjoys his wine.

Quentin explains to the Pastor his dilemma, namely that he has to leave Port Royal very soon. Pastor Francis tells him of a tavern near the docks called the Crow’s Nest and it’s reputation for some, less than pious, practices (including, it seems, smuggling in some really good wine for the Pastor) and that if he needed to find a way off the island then he might want to talk with a fellow by the name of Leo. Quentin thanks the Pastor and makes his way towards the tavern, dodging guards along the way by cutting down alleyways and side streets.

Produce market
Over in the produce market Emilie Lavoie, recently arrived in Port Royal, has been following information she received and is trying to find the Crow’s nest tavern. She stops by one of the fruit stands and eyes the beautiful apples, picking up one and smiling at the vendor before asking him if he happens to know where she might find a tavern by the name of the Crow’s Nest. This topic causes a shift in the vendor and quietly he informs her, not that he’s trying to pry, that it’s not the sort of place a beautiful woman like her would normally frequent. Emilie kindly tells him that he is, in fact, prying and that it’s best to leave it be. The vendor gets the hint and directs her to the tavern. Emilie pays for her apple and walks down the street toward the side of town where the tavern is supposed to be, smiling sweetly at the guards walking by.

The Crow’s Nest

Meanwhile in the Crow’s Nest, Leo is working the bar. Taking notice that the amount of customers has dipped dramatically since sailors have started being arrested he orders the barmaid Christina to get back to work and bring the Irishman over in the corner another drink since he’s one of their only paying customers. The door opens and Quentin Ward walks in, taking in the room as he approaches the bar. Quentin strikes up a conversation with him, asking if he knows a man ny the name of Leo. Deciding not to reveal himself Leo asks the stranger his business and Quentin, quietly, reveals that he needs to get off the island. Putting up the sign for silence Leo leads Quentin into the kitchen to talk.

As they exit into the kitchen Emilie enters the room, surveying it quickly and noticing the lone Irishman in the corner. A small group of boys at the table nearest the door, just coming of age and celebrating that fact, cat call her and try to get her to come over, she winks at them and passes them by, her eyes on the Irishman. As she nears he kicks out the chair opposite him and invites her to sit down.

In the kitchen Leo shoos the cooking staff outside on break and then reveals his true identity to Quentin who elaborates on his problem. Leo tells Quentin that he may have a solution for him, outside, in the bar, an Irishman who is looking to hire people for his crew. Quentin is intrigued by this and decides to talk to him, Leo warns cautions though and says that he will arrange an introduction first.

Meanwhile Emilie is talking to the Irishman, he introduces himself as Mister Irish (which arouses her suspicions slighty) and tells her that he is hiring a crew. She files that away and asks him if he has heard of a man named Antonio de Silva but unfortunately he replies that he has not. Mister Irish continues on his original topic and she decides to ask him why, he explains that the crew of his ship had been shipped off to prison the evening before and that he needed help to break them out. Taking a moment he turns, waves the barmaid over and orders a mug of grog for himself and some wine for the lady. As the barmaid brings them their drinks Leo emerges from the kitchen, approaching Mister Irish he tells him that he may have a hire for him, at that moment though three gentlemen enter the bar and Emilie quickly notices that they are wearing red undercloaks, traditional colors of the Spanish.

Christina spies the gentlemen and hurries over to Leo, pointing them out and explaining that she has seen their kind before in the bars where other patrons were hauled away.

The gentlemen begin speaking to the three young men near the door and after thirty seconds or so they grab one and one of them escorts the young man out. The other gentlemen remain and continue talking with the remaining young men. Leo, having none of this, gets up and stomps over telling them to get out of his bar and leave his customers alone, they block his way and tell him that this is none of his concern and it might be best for him if he stayed out of things. Leo is handed his bow by Christina and calmly threatens them, notching an arrow and pulling it back in one swift motion. They begin backing out of the bar slowly as Leo lets loose the arrow, burying it deep in the door frame, they run but not before swearing that they’ll be back.

The rest of the customers quickly get up and leave as Leo tells Mister Irish and Emilie to please make their way into the kitchen and join his other guest Quentin. As they do Christina returns from upstairs and informs Leo that the boss would like to speak with him, now. Leo excuses himself and says he will return shortly.

Upstairs Leo comes into the room of the elderly Mr. Crow, a bedridden man who ushers for Leo to come close. Mr. Crow tells Leo that Christina informed him of what happened and that the Spanish will surely seek retribution on him. Leo agrees and Mr. Crow tells him it’s best that he gets away from Port Royal for awhile, he can settle this but not if Leo is there with the Spanish calling for his blood. Leo relunctantly agrees and Mr. Crow hands him a sack of 40 pieces of eight, the profit from the whole month, to help him on his journey. He tells Leo that he was always like a son to him and it’s best if he just get out of there right now, Leo turns and leaves, neither of them were ever much for sentimentality.

Downstairs, Quentin has explained his situation to Mister Irish and has agreed to join up with his crew to get off the island. Leo soon rejoins them and the four of them escape through the kitchen into the streets of Port Royal.

Port Royal, 1:45pm

On the streets of Port Royal Quentin suggests that they hide out back in the Old Church run by Pastor Francis, the group agrees and splits up to attract less attention. Each group makes their way to the church, dodging guards and groups of spanish infiltrators. The rendezvous behind the church and Quentin knocks on the door quietly. After a minute Pastor Francis opens the door and, upon seeing Quentin, ushers them all inside.

The Old Church

They all gather together in main hall of the church, Pastor Francis bringing them each a cup of wine. He asks them all what he can do for them and comments that they all seems to be hurried, as if they were fleeing something. Quentin explains that they require sanctuary for the evening and asks if he knows anything about Bridewell prison. Taken slightly aback Pastor Francis, sensing that something is afoot, says that although he is a man of god and has sworn to uphold the laws of the land he has come to disagree with many of the policies that have been sweeping the island as of late. The amount of people that he ministers each night has risen dramatically and watching them hang at dawn, well he is just tired of it. The Pastor promises to help if he can but he will not break his vows.

The group quickly gets down to business, Mister Irish explains that his captain let the crew go ashore two days ago to carouse and spend their share of the booty, and after an evening of doing just that they were arrested and taken to Bridewell prison. One crew member got away and returned to the ship, telling the captain of what had happened and she sent him to get them back. They continued their planning, discussing the prison, it’s location and soon a rudimentary plan was formed.

Pastor Francis tells the group how when a man is to be hung, he goes the night before to administer last rites for the condemned, it may be primarily a catholic rite but he believes everyone deserves them. The group soon concocts a plan to join him on his ministrations, in the guise of fellow clergy, and bring absolution to the prisoners as well as some wine laced with Laudenum to the guards. The Pastor has a supply of Laudanum on hand for those nights that he just cannot sleep peacefully, which have been more and more lately.

After the planning Mister Irish disappears out the door and flags down a boy nearby, he pays the boy and gives him a note with instructions that it be brought to his ship berthed in the North docks. Quentin sees this and confronts Mister Irish, asking him about the note, he explains and Quentin asks if he could get his ship closer to the prison, Mister Irish thinks this over and then agrees that it could be done. They proceed back into the church where Emilie asks what they were up to and they all begin talking about the ship and start adapting the plan. They discuss using the cliffs to escape, planting ropes down them to assist the sailors in getting to the water and into the longboats waiting there. They agree on the plan, share it with Leo and get to work.

Leo and Emilie go back to the markets near the docks, sneaking their way there and soon find a rope dealer who, after some haggling, sells them the lengths of rope they need, packing it into two barrels that they roll back towards the church. Once there Mister Irish takes over for Emilie, pretending, alongside Leo, to be a simple dock worker on a delivery, placing the barrels next to the wall near the prison. A guard comes out to ask them what they are doing there but Leo quickly assures him that they are just on a routine delivery. They both quickly return to the church and await for evening to fall.
