Bio:

Captain Annabelle Stuart

Annabelle Stuart was the daughter of the wealthy trade merchant, Archibald Stuart in the city of Port au Prince on the island of Hispaniola. When Stuart began vying for a lucretive shipping contract against a rival Spanish company her father was suddenly accused of under handed tactics and dealings with local pirates. Stuart denied these dealings but the local militia (conveniently) found a missing shipment of supposedly stolen goods in one of his warehouses and several officials came forward saying that Stuart had bribed them the keep quiet. The Governor stripped Stuart of his holdings and condemned him to hang as a pirate, they even went so far as to brand him as one before they did.

Annabelle and her mother went into hiding, escaping from Port au Prince on a cargo ship. Along the way their ship was attacked by pirates and they were taken hostage, Anna and her mother became separated and Anna was brought before the Captain when, instead of breaking down and pleading for her life, she demanded the right of parley.

Following the code she was brought before the Captain, Barnabus by name, and he demanded to know why he should spare her life. Annabelle, stowing up her courage and anger proceeded to tell him of the injustices her father had to endure, the ridicule and dishonorable treatment but Captain Barnabus merely scoffed ‘Tis the way of the world’ he said. His color changed though when she told him that the Spanish had blamed pirates for all of it. Barnabus could see the fire in her and asked her one question, one question that would shape her existence from then on ‘an what would you be doing about it?’

Annabelle swore oaths and curses of what she would do to the ones responsible that made even Barnabus wince and he smiled. He offered her a chance, a small chance for revenge. She would crew for him for 3 years, unpaid, and in return he would teach her the ways of piracy, he would take her as his own daughter and teach her all his tricks and when she was experienced enough he would let her capture a ship of her own. She agreed but only if her mother’s safety was assured, the Captain agreed that they would leave her at a mission in Tabago to live out her life in peace. The deal was struck and sealed.

For three years Anna (as she came to be called by Barnabus) served aboard the Raven, learning all she could. Barnabus instructed her in the ways of the pirate and warned the crew that she was as his own kin and that any man who dared test that threat would be keel hauled, to back this up his own first mate, Nathan Carrow (an overly large man from the West Indies) became her instructor and implied bodyguard. There was only one incident and it quickly resolved when Mr. Carrow neatly broke the man’s arm, the sailor was then keel hauled to prove the point and he died soon after from massive infection.

Anna proved an able student and likeable as well, with most of the men soon referring to her as little sister, she did all that was expected and never complained or questioned an order. In her third year the Raven ran down a Spanish Schooner, the San Miguel, and boarded it. Capturing it’s crew Barnabus turned to Anna to ascertain its fate. Anna looked at the Spanish Captain bound to the mast and calmly and coldly shot him, she then offered the crew a choice, sail for her or die in Davy Jones’ locker. Barnabus was proud.

The crew quickly agreed (they had hated the old captain anyways) and rallied around the newly appointed Captain Anna. Mr. Carrow stayed with her (at Barnabus’ secret request) and the ship was renamed the Busty Belle (Anna had grown quite a lot in 3 years) and Barnabus wished his adopted daughter good fortune and sailed the Raven off.

Anna quickly made a name for herself, terrorizing the Spanish main while building up her treasure to finance her eventual revenge.
